Vegan Worcestershire Sauce Recipe ~ No Need to Buy in Stores!

Vegan Worcestershire Sauce Recipe ~ No Need to Buy in Stores!

You can find brands of vegan Worcestershire sauce in some stores. However, it’s simple to make your own with this recipe. The sauce lasts about a month in the fridge. Best of all, it takes just minutes to prep.

Worcestershire sauce is a wonderful addition to many dishes. Use it when you want a rich umami kick. It is traditionally made with fermented garlic and onion, vinegar, spices, molasses, citrus, and anchovies. It’s the anchovies that make it non-vegan, but also part of what gives it that unique flavor.

So, how do you get the same flavor experience in vegan form?

This vegan Worcestershire sauce is vegan, homemade (so you know exactly what goes into it) and tastes as good, or even better than, the original version.

Vegan Worcestershire Sauce

Here’s how to make this fermented condiment at home. Use these steps below to make Worcestershire sauce vegan. Many of the ingredients are pantry staples, and once you buy them, they last a fairly long time.

The only planning I have to do is for the orange juice. I just buy an orange and squeeze out the fresh juice. I usually buy oranges anyway, so it’s really easy.

How to Make Vegan Worcestershire Sauce

  1. Over medium-high heat, combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Stir well and bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for about 5 minutes.

  3. Remove from the heat and allow the mixture to cool.

  4. Pour the vegan Worcestershire sauce into a glass jar. If you want just thin sauce, strain it through cheesecloth as you pour.

  5. Cover securely with a tight-fitting lid. Refrigerate.

  6. Let it sit for about a week to allow the flavors to blend and meld. You can use it in the meantime, as it sits.

Storing

I store it in small mason jars. When I serve it, I pour it into a small glass condiment bottle. I found mine online. It was advertised as a soy sauce bottle and dispenser. Keep it in the covered container in the refrigerator to extend the life and quality.
