Seared Tuna Recipe with Delicious Marinade

Seared Tuna Recipe with Delicious Marinade

Seared tuna is a great dish that’s easy to make for a light lunch or dinner. Ahi tuna is a flavored fish with a very nice texture. It is firm and meaty which makes it perfect for searing.

If you are feeling a little unsure about seared fish because it is traditionally cool and dark pink in the center, it’s okay. While medium rare, seared tuna is perfectly safe, but you can certainly cook it a little longer.

However, if you are the least bit curious, I urge you to at least give it a try. There really is nothing like ahi tuna recipes. My kids won’t eat it but the adults in the house love it!

Seared Tuna

This marinated seared tuna recipe serves two. You can serve it alongside a great broccoli dish or roasted vegetables for a delicious meal or hearty appetizer. It’s simple to prep and cooks quickly. This means getting it from the refrigerator to the table takes just minutes.

You can also prep it in the morning, and let the ahi tuna steaks sit in the refrigerator to marinate. Use these step-by-step directions to make seared tuna.

Ingredients to Make Seared Tuna

  • 2 ahi tuna steaks (about 1 ½ inches thick)

Marinade for seared tuna

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 2 cloves roasted garlic, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Sea salt
  • Coarse ground black pepper
  • Chopped green onions
  • Fresh lime juice – optional

How to Make Seared Tuna

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, honey, ginger, cayenne, salt, and pepper. Put 2 tablespoons in a cup or small bowl and set aside.
  2. Put the tuna steaks in a plastic Ziploc bag and pour the marinade over them. Push the air out of the bag and seal it. Gently work the marinade around the tuna steaks until they are both well covered.
  3. Let the tuna marinate in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high to high heat. Add some olive oil or other oil to the pan – about 1 tablespoon.
  5. Place the marinated tuna steaks in the pan and sear for 2 minutes on each side (medium rare). For rarer, reduce the time to 1 ½ minutes on each side and for medium, increase the time to 3 minutes on each side.
  6. Immediately remove the tuna steaks from the pan and place on a plate or non-porous cutting board. Let them rest for 3 minutes.
  7. To serve, slice the tuna steaks and garnish with the marinade you set aside. Add chopped green onions. You can also drizzle with fresh lime juice if desired.

Cooking at Home

Through the years, I’ve learned to cook almost all our foods from scratch. My son has a palm oil allergy and palm oil intolerance. Eating at home is so much easier than worrying about ingredients in processed foods. It’s also been healthier for us because we now buy more real, whole foods, including fish and so many fruits and vegetables.

Let me know in the Comments what you serve this ahi tuna recipe with. Thank you for your interest in making more foods at home.
